Unity Unlimited, Inc. is a non-profit organization that  produces programs that help communities overcome racial, cultural and economic division. About Dr. Opal Lee

Dr. Opal Lee, known as the Grandmother of Juneteenth, is a retired educator and activist who played a key role in making Juneteenth a federal holiday. Born in 1926 in Texas, she dedicated her life to education and community service, co-founding the Tarrant County Black Historical and Genealogical Society. At 89, she began a walking campaign to Washington, D.C., raising awareness for Juneteenth, which became a federal holiday in 2021. Her efforts earned her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2024, recognizing her lifelong commitment to civil rights and historical preservation.
